Teens & the Cervical Cap

The cervical cap (FemCap) is an option if you don’t want to use a hormonal method of birth control. It’s a small silicone cup, used with spermicide, that’s inserted into the vagina before sex. To get a prescription for the cap, you need to visit a health care provider, who will decide what size cap is needed. One cap can last for up to two years. Caps are not as effective at preventing pregnancy as many other methods of birth control, and they don’t protect against sexually transmitted infections.
